T-Mobile Censorship

Postby yukonjasper on Sat Jan 16, 2021 6:39 pm

I am not able to access this site when I am on the T-Mobile network. The Web Sense feature blocks the board.

Is that a new development?

At places like Dunn Bros Coffee, and Regions Hospital, Their guest wifi blocks this forum.

I fear this is the wave of the future. Since I am not allowed out w/o supervision I am not exposed to such blockages. Other blockages though....

I'm not to smart phone literate, but I'm on T-Mobile, I-phone, and can access this site through Firefox.

It did that on mine as well.

It has something to do with built up errors.

You need to have them do some sort of clearance thing. It blocked almost all websites for me until I did that.

I think they have some sort of glitch in websense.

They can fix it, but it requires talking with customer service and having all your t mobile passwords, etc.

Encrypt your traffic and prevent T-Mo/VZW/ATT/Comcast/Uncle Joe/President Harris from:
1) Seeing your web traffic.
2) Censoring your web traffic (if they can't see it they can't censor it...)

I noticed that when trying to access billsgs.com on my phone. Strangely, most of the site worked but not the "New products" shop; that must be because it has its own third-level domain, firearms.billsgs.com, while the rest of the site doesn't have the spooky word in its URL.
Called T-Mobile. They admitted its their content filter "glitch" and told me to restart the phone. The issue promptly disappeared. No, I am not able to fine-tune the filter on my side, I must call them.
Wife's phone still would block the site; in the evening, entire billsgs was inaccessible.
The next day, all was gone.
I think it's just clumsiness on the side of T-Mobile.
VPN would have taken care of this. They should be able to block the known VPNs though, should the gloves come off.

I don't understand a lot of how these things work.

All I know is that, unless I'm connected to my home I cannot get to this site.

For any and all T-Mobile problems I have found the staff at the Roseville T-Mobile store (just north of Rosedale Mall) to be incredibly helpful, knowledgable and polite. Very good reps for T-Mobile.

This site requires a login and does not use SSL. That is extremely rare and very frowned upon. That could very well be the factor causing the block because it is considered a (very high) security risk.

Secondly T-Mobile has nothing to do with "WebSense" (now called Forcepoint) from what I can tell. Do you use your phone for work? Your employer may have forced installation of it on your phone.
