New from Savage, VERY affordable 338 Lapua offerings

From Accurateshooter.com http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/

Last week, Savage Arms unveiled some interesting new rifles in a surprise “Mid-Year Product Announcement”. Long range shooters will be pleased with the two new .338 LM models. These join Savage’s popular Model 110 BA which has been offered in .338 LM as well as .300 Win Magnum. The NEW Model 110 FCP HS Precision is a long range tactical rifle featuring a 5-round detachable box magazine, HS Precision fiberglass stock with aluminum V-block, 26″ heavy fluted barrel, muzzle brake and AccuTrigger. The Model 110 FCP weighs 10.7 pounds and has a suggested retail price of $1,499.

The second new .338 LM offering is the Model 110 Long Range Hunter (LRH). This hunting varient is lighter and easier to field-carry than the 110 FCP HS (above). The new Model 110 LRH features a composite AccuStock with 3D bedding and a Karsten adjustable cheekpiece. The Long Range Hunter also has a 5-round detachable magazine, heavy fluted barrel, muzzle brake and AccuTrigger. It weighs 9.25 pounds and has a suggested retail price of $1,213.

IMHO this is pretty sweet, the 338 LM is a killer round, in the past this super magnum was only available in rather expensive rifles, to see a big firm like Savage putting this round into a $1500 rifle with an HSP stock is kick butt.
If you are a true ballistic buff this is the caliber to be shooting, it's rivals (408 CT and 416 Barrett) are VASTLY more expensive to shoot and nowhere near as available, the wind bucking skills of this round make 1000 yd shooting much more feasible for the intermediate shooter, a 300gr SMK leaving at 27XX FPS will have about 1/3 of the wind drift @ 1000 yds than a 308 175 SMK leaving at around the same speed, that’s allot more fudge room for someone who may not be an expert at wind reading, a conservative correction should get you on paper and being on paper is the only safe way to shoot. All in all this is pretty cool, thumbs up to Savage.

I have a VERY strong suspicion one of the HS ones will make it's way into my safe someday, I love the HS PST stock and own a few of them, they just fit me right, function great and have the "right" look

I have neither the use for one, nor the ability to do what the rifle could.

But this is a "WFC situation".

WFC = who **** cares!?!

This may outweigh my AR-10 on the priority list. Much serious (dreaming) thought on the way.
