Unfortunately, a used .40 anything will not bring many of the dollars. The fact that it's HK might make it worse; I'm not sure how hard it is, or if it's possible to rebarrel one of those, unlike a Glock 23, for example, which is pretty much drop in (I know, the extractor claw is different, but you can still shoot it).
Don't count on getting that $750 back, even with less than 100 rounds through it. You might get $500, probably closer to $400 if you can find a buyer locally. Selling it on GB will mean you'll probably realize $300 after shipping and transfer fees, unless you're an FFL or someone will do it for you for free.
Good luck. I'd say just hold onto it, and wait for better days. I've done this with several pistols.
