Ammo age

Just wondering if anyone has an idea of when the last time they saw ammo for sale in Target? Buddy handed me a box to test his 30-30 with after I did some work on it. Has an old Target price sticker $4.03 for a box of 20 Remington Hi-Speed 170gr soft point Core-lokt ammo. I think the last time I saw ammo at Target was mid late 70"s.

when they quit selling ammo, and targets( I don't recall seeing firearms), they made perhaps the first of their many retailing decisions to be 'socially responsible'

I remember seeing firearms in the mid 80's. I don't think that it was "social responsibility" that caused them to stop selling firearm. I've heard that it was more a nudge from the ATF after lots of sloppy paperwork.

I also remember buying bricks of .22 from Shopko....

I still have a brick of CCI mini mag that I bought when Target was closing out its firearms and ammo. Every once in a while I'll grab a 50 round box and use the ammo then save the box.

I remember going into the Midway Target shortly after moving to the cities, and seeing shelves of shotgun ammunition on clearance, so that would put it somewhere in mid-to-late 1993 - may have been early 1994.

I remember buying ammo at Target in Alexandria in around 95-96, maybe later.

I'm not sure when target quit caring guns but the sloppy paperwork reason is one I've heard several times as to why they got out of it. I remember in either 1984 or 1985 buying 410 shells at $1.75 per box for the 2 1/2 inch and $2.25 a box for the 3 inch. I still have a couple boxes of the 3 inch around but the short shells of all been shot and reload it several times so far. I loaded up a shopping cart full of them Wayback win and have been using them since.

I still have a couple boxes of .357 mag with the Target price sticker on the side. Bought them in the late 70's I think. They were still selling guns back then too. I actually bought my first shotgun, a Remington 870 Wingmaster, at K-mart. A Wingmaster with the real walnut stock, not the Express model. $139.99 if I recall.

Funny you bring this up. I was checking my ammo supply prior to the election and found a dozen 50 round boxes of Winchester .22 or with a Target price tag of $1.79 each.

30-30 for $4 bucks a box sounds more like the early 70's or even the late 60's price
