Hey folks.. back again.

Yesterday I got my PSA lower ordered and started finding tools.

I'm now researching uppers. I really want to build this rifle from the ground up (no completed upper/lower) but the 5.56 Midlength Evo Ultra Lite upper from Adams Arms looks pretty nice.

Any recommendations on uppers for a decent 3-gun rifle that I should be researching?

Thanks!

I'm a fan of monolithic uppers.

Since I have not seen it mentioned yet, the most comprehensive collection of competition shooters, operators, trainers, armorers and general AR knowledge is at http://www.m4carbine.net/forum.php.

They get cranky with novice questions that have been answered many times so search and read a lot and post little unless you have thick skin. The smackdowns do make for enjoyable reading.

I enjoy AR15.com too, but can't register with my gmail or yahoo email. Pretty stupid as they cause no problems here or at M4 or any other forum I have joined. Malefactors are still dealt with promptly.

Unfortunately, no. I keep getting distracted with other firearms.

But the biggest issue is that I got "paralysis of analysis". I never could make a decision on anything simply because there were too many options. I bought some of the parts and then ended up selling them having decided I didn't really want them. But I never did decided what I do want.

I completely understand how this happens and recommend buying a nice over the counter AR at your local gun store as a starting point. Something like a Colt 6920 or a bushmaster carbine. That will get you some personal experience and you can build a list of likes and dislikes.

I am not a fan of the piston driven systems. I think they are more costly then valuable in the majority of our civilian applications. There will be lots of people who disagree but to each his own.

Good luck

Just buy any old upper you find so long as it has the features you are looking for. Blemished can usually be painted. I think I got my stripped DPMS upper for $75 at element arms. Just waiting to find the right barrel until it is basically done.

Hey guys, thanks again for the input on this.

I think I've finally settled on a build but there is an issue.

I'd like to go for a side-charging setup with the Adams Arms piston kit (probably a bit unusual). I contacted AA about this and they are saying that the bolt isn't set up for a side charging handle and would require some modifications and would void the warranty. I'm debating just ditching the side-charging handle idea given these two issues. Wondering if anyone has done this before and if you have advice.

Also, I'm a bit concerned anyways with the side-charging setup since I don't know how I could use a dust cover. Possible?

Thanks!
