Remington 870 Sportsman 20ga 26" barrel

Postby PHATSPEED7x on Fri Aug 30, 2013 4:05 pm

I just picked one of these up from a local pawn shop. Beautiful wood on it. Came with 4 chokes, wrench, and case. It's a used gun but looks brand new still. It's in 20ga so the gf can learn how to shoot clays without having her shoulder beat up by my 12ga. She's shot 20ga before, but only from a H&R single shot. I think she's gonna love it. I'll post pictures of the gun tonight when I get home.

Edit: here are the pics...

Nice gun! Laminated stock and some sort of "tuff coat/dura coat" finish makes it a gun that can take a heap of abuse out hunting. :D

She loves it! Fits her pretty well. She loves the wood furniture on it. Can't wait for her to recover 100% from her surgery so we can go shoot.

I have that very same shotgun. I got it last September and it is my go-to grouse gun for walking the thick brush. I was able to get a few ruffs and 1 woodcock with it.

Clean the gun last night. Never had a 870 fight me so much when it came to putting it back together. But after 20mins of playing with it, I finally got it. The action just needs to be slicked up. And there is no better way of doing that then shooting the gun. Going to buy a case of 20ga target loads, and have her shoot the hell out of it this weekend. After I got done cleaning her shotgun I cleaned my Benelli SuperNova. That was alot more user friendly, and with no issues.

Usually helps to have the forearm pulled back about .5" . Also check that you are not binding either the action bars or the action "tube" around the mag tube. Easiest way to notice is wear. Gun looks almost new, so there should be no wear on the action bars (especially the "flat" sides) or the mag tube. If there is, it indicates that something is out of whack, bent, or twisted.
