I see this model is a Gas Impingement Gas Rifle vs piston so that might be another reason why it's cheaper... I'm just looking for my first ar don't want to spend to much now. Was thinking about building one but this is all new to me for guns but I'm pretty handy. Has anyone done a group build for AR15 or even one on one builds here? I always think it's better to build then just buy one...

I had a core 15 they make pretty good rifles, but sold it because it wasn't an approved duty rifle. They are built in Ocala FL .

If you want to build a rifle. Many of the members here can help. Buy a forged mil-spec lower and get a parts kit from a reputable company, RRA, Spikes, Palmetto and then get an upper.

It really is that simple. A lower can be assembled in half an hour.

Building your own will always get the most bang for the buck.

If anything buy everything from palmetto and then you'll have a quality rifle if you built it correctly for around 600 bucks

Nothin to build a lower ... pins are pins! ... can always swap out a trigger, trigger-guard, grip, or stock!

Upper's where the action's at! ... handguard! ... bbl! ... comp! ... that's what defines the gun!

Only reason I'd ever buy a whole upper is to acquire parts!

Otherwise, get a decent $100ish lower, a decent $100ish upper ("assembled"), and go cheap on everything else!

Down the road, ya can then swap out the handguard ($35 down the ****ter), trigger ($20 down the ****ter), trigger-guard ($3 down the ****ter), flash-hider ($20 down the ****ter) ... you get the idea!

BCG's kinda middle-ground ... I prefer a "M16" one ... but I got no complaints with my JP FM! ... ya'll have a tough time gettin anything much under $100 ... shame to piss that down the ****ter! ... maybe spend a few extra $ there, too ... get a good one to start! I don't think overly much of DD ... but I do like their BCG! ... Palmetto, too! ... and Rainier! ... Palmetto'd be the cheapest, if they're in-stock!

Ya might end up closer to $800 ... but ya'll lose less money, down the road!

Regardless of the brand name on them, the Mini SASS and Mark 12 barrels sold by DPMS are solid pieces. They are actually a Wilson Arms barrel. Though they have been a little tough to find for a while I much prefer the Mark 12 barrel to the Mini SASS. Same overall length, but with a rifle length gas system and it comes in a full pound lighter...... yep! .. Mk12 > mini sass ... regardless of $ ... even at 2x $, it's still a better bbl, IMO!

I'd guess, once they start shippin again, the price'll go up!

I've got a Core 15 and love it, it is a piston model as opposed to gas impingement. I had a problem early on with it, but contacted Wyndham and they fixed it within 2 weeks (including shipping) at no cost to me. They paid shipping both ways, and were prompt in fixing it. If you look at their website, they stand behind their product, they told me it doesn't matter if you are the 4th owner and the gun has 10,000 rounds down range, they will fix it.

BTW after getting the gun back, it has performed flawlessly for several hundred rounds, and is very accurate.
