Having had a mark 2 and moved to a sr22, I can say both serve different needs. The small size one person complains about is precisely why I love the gun (besides it's a great shooter!) - I stick it in my back pocket when walking in the woods.

The mark 2 might have been more accurate, but I didn't shoot mine well. I've drilled chipmunks throat to butt with the sr22 @ 15 yards. He should've kept going when he got into that knot hole.

Two really different guns...
I have a MkIII, it's an accurate, reliable shooter with just about any ammo I can throw at it. It has had some work done  They are putzy to disassemble/reassemble, but not the living hell some would make them out to be.
A friend has an SR22, I'm not sure it's had 30r through it at a time without a failure of some kind. Others obviously have had different experiences, but I wouldn't buy one based on that experience.
I'll echo the idea to look at a Buckmark, a fabulous shooter right out of the box.
Remember, gun control is not about guns, it's about control.

I've put a couple thousand through my SR22 and could count on one hand the number of failures. All have been a failure to feed the 2nd round in the magazine. Otherwise no problems. Shoots great, and would definatly buy another if I ever needed to replace it.
It's accurate enough to knock out the X ring at 7-10yds all day long if I do my part regardless of the ammo. That being said, I doubt head to head it's as accurate as a buckmark or MKII.

My MKIII 22/45 has run great for tens of thousands of rounds.

It is very accurate.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

I purchased a SR22 and love it. I put through 300 rounds through it and have had no issues whatsoever. I would recomend the gun to anyone.

Bought an SR22 a while back. Love it... You can throw ammo in it that's been around 25-30 years, is corroded, you name it.. It just keeps shooting.... I was told by the dealer that when Ruger built this gun, they wanted something that would shoot anything. And it shoots anything! I love to shoot mine, my wife shoots it, and it's going to be the first pistol my daughter learns to use. She's been eyeing up the pink or purple colored one at the gun shop everytime we go in. She's got 11 years to go though.

Had a friend that bought a mosquito, he was wishing he could take it back. Had plenty of issues with jamming.

Yep. We have way too many of them, and not enough natural predators. I shoot every one I can.

I guess I'm a little late the party on this post, but I thought I'd add my .02$.
I was trying to decide between those exact 2 guns last summer. Fortunately, I ended up being able to fire both of them before purchasing. Unfortunately, that didn't help my decision process.
In the end I chose the 22/45 mkiii. What decided it for me, was that accuracy and longevity were more important than aesthetics and cool factor. Let's face it, the SR-22 looks better. I still want one and if I find another for a good price, I wouldn't hesitate.
I love my 22/45 though. And the takedown IS painful the 1st few times, now its a breeze. That should definitely not be the deciding factor for you though.

Now it's just a matter of finding some ammo. Good luck with the decision.....unless it's already happened. Then good luck finding ammo :)

I have a SR22 and like it a lot. I also looked at the mosquito, M&P22 and the Walther. For me, the Ruger was the best option. I loved the sights on the Sig, but the trigger guard was too small. I liked the Smith pretty well, but didn't like the sights. The Walther felt really small in my hand and I just did not like it. If you wanted to try shooting the SR22, I could be talked into meeting at BPR and let you try it.

I'd do the MK.I have no experience with the SR but have read about people having trouble with them. You'll be able to hand the MK down to your grand children and it'll still be working just fine.

Just picked up a browning buckmark can't wait to try it out. I read good stuff on it.

People have trouble with any gun, I expect that I should be able to pass down my SR22 to my grandchildren.

So far with my SR22 I have had zero issues, many of the issues people have had were fixed by Ruger. There was an issue with the takedown knob, they fixed it. There was also reports of loose barrel screws, they fixed that. And then there were reports of the slide hold lever chewing up the slide, they fixed that. Any new gun will have some quirks and growing pains, but I think the SR22 is hitting its stride now that things are ironed out.
