I can't believe I have the same barber as the pink unicorn.

Hopefully he will find his way to hell. No prison term is adequate justice for murder.

I was at work a block from there. One of the employees apparently was threatened by the shooter in the parking lot but was able to run into the building. A manager made an announcement over the PA to make sure all the doors were locked because of a 'possible gunman'.

Never had anything along these lines during the years I worked in North Minneapolis. Just goes to show you don't know how safe any neighborhood is at any given moment.

My thoughts, too. It's too bad that the police didn't take this guy out. Now he will be paraded in front of the cameras and portrayed as someone who was failed by society. And why do we not know his identity yet?

Gov't executions are, for the time being, still frowned upon. Your point about the shooter's identity is an interesting one. I am almost certain an earlier news article from last night did name the shooter, a 34 yr old man who lived nearby in his parent's home. Updated articles do not name him.

You are right. We only want his history and physical.

I'm mildly curious why this article on kare11 has 14 comments and the article on the same page referring to the man pleading guilty to murder with a hammer of all things has none! Shocking

It's remarkable how much more it affects ya, when it's close to home ... I used to live on Hadley ... my boy'll be 10yr this year ... I know it's utterly irrelevant, but my first thought was, I sure am glad we don't live in Oakdale, anymore! ... at the very least, if we did, that could've easily been my wife, and my boy, instead!

As it is, I 'spose there's a chance we know this boy!

Like everyone else on this board, and throughout the area, I'm saddened by this news.
However, like XDM45 said, I'm no longer shocked by it. That just seems to be the direction in which this increasingly twisted society is headed.
At the same time, I'm puzzled by the timing of some of these events in the relatively recent past.
For example --
Yesterday (Monday) evening on the 6:00PM WCCO local news, Pat Kessler was standing near the State Capitol stating that it seemed very unlikely that any of the currently proposed gun control measures would make it through the Minnesota Legislature.
Then, a short time later, this Oakdale tragedy takes place.
Subsequently, on the 10:00PM Channel 9 news, the Oakdale Police Chief is seen on camera politicizing this shooting by saying that we need to give serious thought to the pending gun control legislation.
Don't start yelling "conspiracy theorist" or any of that crap, but it seems sometimes that things are getting "weirder and weirder" shall we say.
It seems there is an unlimited supply of "nut jobs" coming out of the woodwork, at what seems to be an increasing rate, in the last year or so.
Mental illness, prescription & illegal drug abuse, etc, etc -- but why so many disgusting incidents in the last several months?

The timing and the reporting on all things gun related has definitely stepped up over the past 2 months.

Coincidence or conspiracy I have no idea, but it definitely feels "off" somehow. Always trust your instincts and right now my gut is telling me that there is something else other than the obvious that is happening here.

I can believe all the sensationalized reporting is planting and reinforcing some ideas in the minds of those who are on the verge of acting out their rage. Perhaps the guaranteed notoriety is found to be appealing.
