Is now a good time to buy a gun?

Postby Izod on Mon Oct 22, 2012 11:09 am

My wife and I just hosted a Conceal and Carry class a week ago and we still haven't applied for the permit it carry.
She has a small 380 which she might carry. Mine is a full framed 9mm i got for home defense. I want to get a 380 as well for carry and this is where my problem lies. Normally I would be in no hurry and would just save up the money slowly. But with the elections coming up I get the uncomfortable feeling that Obama might get his second reign and the prices will skyrocket or i will lose the right all together to purchase or even carry. So i guess i have two worries.

Would you guys suggest i apply for my permit to carry and get the pistol before the election or don't worry about it and just get it whenever i feel like it?

what do you think?

I dunno that it matters so much what "we" think?! ... what matters is what everyone else thinks!

If they think, if osama wins, he's gonna ban <insert make/model/caliber, here>, they're gonna drive prices up!

Earlier this year, Ruger announced they weren't taking any more orders!

I don't know that things are particularly bad, right now?! ... not nearly as bad as '08 - '09!

Frankly, if ya can afford to buy the gun ya want ... for the price ya can actually find one! ... I'd say "buy it"! ... and if ya can't, then wait! Image

If yer tryin' to figure out when's a good time to start panicking?! ... I'd say 'bout Spring '08! :|

It's always a good time to buy a gun :D But really you are WAY overthinking it. There are still plenty of dealers with good prices, just don't go to Gander and expect to get a screaming deal on a 380. Plus if he does get re-elected it would take weeks or months before there was any real shortage. It's not like everyone is going to flood gun stores and blow their paychecks on guns the day after.

If you took the class you may as well get the permit and a nice gun to go with it. That's the way I look at it. If you wait too long you may loose the paper work or just put it off forever. Do it now while it's on your brain.

Yes, right now is a good time to buy a gun. Just like yesterday, last year, last decade, tomorrow, and in 50 years...
If you can buy a gun, it is a good time to buy a gun.

Do shop around and compare prices, though.

It is ALWAYS a good time to shop for a gun and after that it is a GREAT time to buy one. Prices will be all over the map most of the time regardless of who wins the election.

If we're giving out references, I'd try thunder John (Southwest Arms) but don't PM him here, e-mail him.
I'd also stop in and see Marv at Frontiersman on Louisiana S of 394.
private or small grou permit classes available

That's like asking if it's a good time to get laid.

I bought into the election year hype and the possibility of the gun ban goofballs getting more laws or restrictions soon .......so either way, I think it's always a great time to buy a new gun.
Anti-gun goofs fail to realize that if they melt every gun on the planet & I want you dead, a claw hammer would do the trick!! Then what? Ban claw hammers?

it's never a BAD time to buy a gun. never

I used the election as an excuse to buy my last gun(Sprinfield XD) but honestly I wanted the gun anyway and I used the excuse to get what I wanted.
Don't know why I needed the excuse, I was in the doghouse with the wife for a few weeks anyways.
In the end it was worth it since she got over it and I still have the gun.

I think now is definitely a good time to stock up on high capacity magazines.
Not so sure Barry will do as much about handguns as he will likely ban any mag over 10 rounds.

I doubt finding a sub compact .380 will be too much trouble post election. I always see plenty every time I go somewhere that sells guns.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.

Personally I wouldn't put anything past him.
