DATE CHANGE - Nov 19th - 50BMG Ladies Shoot

Postby OldmanFCSA on Fri Oct 28, 2011 12:30 pm

DATE CHANGE AT REQUEST OF OAKDALE GUN CLUB - NOVEMBER 19th

WE ALSO NEED A LIST OF ATTENDEES _ PLEASE PM ME ASAP.

Ladies,

Let's plan on November 19th at Oakdale Gun Club for the FREE Shoot for any Lady that wants to shoot a 50BMG Target rifle (Max 5 rounds free). I keep all brass that I will later reload. I do have some samples to give out to the Ladies, 1 pc each.

All others will be charged a minimal fee for any ammo they wish to shoot- Cash Only at the range.

And I will need a Range Officer, if not provided by OGC. This person may shoot up to 10 rounds, if so desired.
We need a start time and a duration of about 4 hours max, dependent on attendance.

This WILL NOT be a money-making deal for me - just trying to minimize some of the cost involved. :!:

I will have an ArmaLite AR-50 there setup with minimal benchrest equipment.
I also will have a State Arms Shorty there that can be shot off the ground or the bench.
Subwofer2 will also be there with his ArmaLite AR-50 that can be shot off the ground or the bench.

These guns develope a lot of heat, so we will alternating guns as required.

BRING EARPLUGS, AND EARMUFFS, AND SHOOTING GLASSES. All are required to shoot a 50BMG rifle. A heavy jacket is recommended but not required. These guns don't kick harder than a 20 gage shotgun. Don't be scared of the gun. My daughter shot it repeatedly when she was 13.

A 50BMG cartridge holds more gunpowder than a hand grenade. - PROPER SAFETY WILL BE REQUIRED!!!

Have you cleared this with Tousi? Since I'm guessing you would want to do this on the 200 yard range which is generally open to the public, especially during deer season, would usually require anyone shooting to either be a member or have paid the admission.

You should probably PM TTOUSI on here as he is the OGC Facilities Manager and can help you out. A couple things I see that might need to be smoothed over with someone are:

1) While the range is open that date and we would love to have you out, each person will have to pay for the use of the range. Now that admitance gets them all day use of all of our ranges so it is a good deal ($15 for the day per shooter). If it was on a date that the range was closed to the public and you had an Oakdale member have you as a guest, you could avoid this but it would be limited to a certain number of guests per Oakdale member I beleive. Since it is open to the public you do not need to worry about an RO, they will be on duty. The range fee would likely apply to yourself as well, though as I said, PM Tom, he may be able to swing a deal for you. I am just too new a member myself to know how far the latitude goes there to bend the rules.

2) Members are not allowed to use the range to "make money" without prior authorization from the board, so with the exchange of money happening on the range it would once again be a good idea to connect with Tom ahead of time. I realize that you are not making money but once again there is an exchange occuring at the range that you probably just want to get clarified ahead of time so that there are no misunderstandings and hurt feelings.

This can be a very wonderful, fun, time and I hope many take you up on your generous offer, I just want to make sure you get set up with the right folks to make it so as I do not want to see any bad feelings that have to get aired on this forum. I would join you but that is the heart of Bambi season for me!

My wife wants to try it out. That is the day before her birthday. If you get it approved let me know. I will bring her down. Might even have a box of the 50bmg rounds laying around. Would be happy to bring them to ease the burden. Let me know. Willing to pay the range fees for her.
Wrap that around your overly muscled left wing and row your dinghy in counterclockwise circles as a result.

Thank you, I did PM him now and I used this posting of yours to better explain to him what my intentions are.

I'm only a couple miles from OGC, if I don't have to work, I can be there to help as an OGC member.

I'm not sure during deer sight in, if rules change, but each member is allowed( I think) 2 guests.
Figuring women would be literally coming in to pull the trigger less than 5 times set up as a service to allow women to try out real big guns, I'd have some doubts about them getting in as guest shooters with a member. Especially figuring they would be all lined up behind the same bench.

I don't speak for OGC though, so I can't say for certain.

My biggest concern would be the number of public shooters on the range next to the .50's, since they are paying public.

Tim, my understanding from talking to Tousi as a lead RO was that everyone who is pulling a trigger on any range open to the public has to either be a member, a spouse, parent or child of a member or be a paying customer. Members are allowed to have up to three guests at a time on any range not open to the public.

Oldman, if you want to do this in the spring I would have no problems coming out on a saturday to play RO for you. I just think it's going to be difficult to do yet this fall.

Shouldn't the hunters be out in the woods already?

The last time I was at OGC, I was very careful and respectful of other shooters. My muzzle brake directs gas back onto other tables, so I don't shoot when others are setup to shoot.

Still waiting to hear back from Tom - does anyone have a phone number for him they can PM me?

PM sent, and while the next couple weekends aren't as busy as this one there are still quite a few people who show up to sight in. Last year during MN opener we had people waiting for benches on the 100 most of the day.
