Walking Targets

I am in no way affiliated with this guy, but he's charging $17 bucks for the parts to make walking targets that should be suitable for 22's and maybe smaller handguns. Seemed like a decent deal for people that have access to a MIG welder. To bad they aren't AR plate, they would be sweet for assualt weapon practice  .

Also found the base design if anyone on the board wanted to make some heavier ones.

Hey Chopper! Yes, that's me. That's not my video, but that is my thread he posted. I'd love to make them out of AR, but it's just so expensive and I don't think many would buy them at the price I'd have to charge. AR is at least 3 times as expensive as standard steel, and obviously I'd have to charge more. If anybody is interested in these little guys, email me at steve@edgemetalworks.net.

I've seen his targets, nice work. Wish I had access to a laser!

That's kinda what I was angling at. I can weld em, but don't have access to the laser to get em cut. If the circles were 4-5" and made outta 3/8 AR, these would be perfect for all the tacticool operators to prove how proficient their Spike's and LMT rigs are

Abrasion resistant. It holds up to fast bullets a lot better than regular "mild" "1018" hot/cold rolled steel.

The AR series of steels are basically just "harder" steels. Because they're harder, they're also more expensive and more difficult to work with. Not for his laser or my Plasma, but like drills and stuff.

Most of the steel targets you'll find are made from some grade of AR steel. CR (cold rolled) or HR (hot rolled) is another designation of steel and is what most bumpers, railings, etc... are made out of. Fine for shooting with a .22 but not much more.

I don't really deal with alot of thicker stuff like 3/8" and above, and definitely don't use much AR series steel, so feel free to contact Evan if you want some of these out of AR400 or AR500. I'm sure he has some drops that would be large enough. The design might have to change a little though... I have a feeling that they would bend at the "neck" right below the circle with that much power hitting them...

Basically an AR400 or AR500 steel target will resist high velocity rifle ammunition very well, without being as expensive as proper armor plate. I've got a pair of Sigfan220's AR500 40% IDPA silhouettes that have sustained thousands of high velocity hits, including dozens of M855 penetrator rounds, with only cosmetic damage (paint loss, slight roughening of the surface, etc).
