The "New Thing" (Past, Present, Future)

The “New Thing” revisited

Remember this ? Most of you probably do. For those who don’t.........

It was a meeting of TC Carry forum members’ last yr in a social setting to:

(Quoting Joel here from the thread)

“There's lots of serious stuff, too. For reasons we'll go into at the meeting, there's some issues in the instructor community that need to be handled, and others that need to be handled better.

There's lots we need to do: get more people involved in political activity, get more people involved in shooting, and, yes, get more people to take out carry permits.”

Read the thread in its entirety here
http://www.twincitiescarry.com/forum/vi ... ight=thing

And/or all six threads here:
http://www.twincitiescarry.com/forum/se ... de=results

Joel still has this info available at the TC Carry forum. (Thanks). Long read but worth it.

I bring this issue up because people occasionally ask what happened to the “New Thing”?
Some equate it to the social gathering/meeting last Dec.

Well I am happy to say that the “New Thing” is alive and well!
It’s all around us.............can’t see the forest through the tree thing

Some examples (I will miss some I’m sure) (No names either)

• Networking thru monthly breakfasts
• State Park carry clarification
• Scottwiggensof thegovernorsoffice.(meetings, e-mails etc)
• Hennepin Co library postings
• Free permit training for battered women
• “The book” free to targets of opportunity
• Treptow (research, e-mails, radio)
• Free permit training for returning vets
• Stand your ground legislation support
• Cokato/Hutch shoots
• Serenity (big dam hero stuff)
• Instructors networking and sharing info
• U of M debate
• Group buys
• Holster making classes
• Sheepdog pins
• Reluctant participant shirts

I know I missed some .....but you get the idea. The TC Carry forum enabled all this to happen. (Thanks again Joel)

So as you can see we are literally up to our ears in “New Thing “stuff. Not only that, but stop and think about how many pro gun people you have met and now call friends.

I wanted to get this out awhile back ...............but you know, the “round tuit”

So what is next?

Keep doing what we are doing. People will naturally gravitate to what they have an interest in. (contact legislators, monitoring govt agencies, e-mails etc.)
We have a wealth of talent here, lets continue to use it. If some one wants to take the lead and organize another “New Thing” get together for the fall that would be great.

All for now.

I have participated in many and it has expanded my horizons about carry. It has helped get me off my butt and do mean full things for the cause. We need to keep it up! :D

In the late 90's and early 00's I saw Alfred working every gun show and I work with him at Ahlmans shooter's round up back then. I think I would have burned out long ago if I had kept at it like some of those key people that work out front and behind the scenes. I know Alfred posted a couple of times on the TCC forum, I hope he makes it over here and figured that Kimberman has already found his way here.

My guess is that Alfred won't, and I'm pretty sure that Joe hasn't. That said, it might be a good idea for the folks who run and/or own this place to invite both of them; Professor Olson isn't hard to find.

Done :)

Alot of the people I spoke to at the new thing in December, heard about the meeting from places other than the forum. Absolutely no afront meant by that statement. I enjoyed meeting the folks in the dungeon, and Old Dude cut quite the dashing figure in his outfit, and anything I could write on was used to give out the web address. But I'm sure there was alot of folks who left that night who did'nt leave with the forum address.

My wife and I went and had a great time! Met a few people on here and she came home with a free class from ttousi which she is using this Saturday. She is pumped! As am I.
