New Shooter to the Range, 12th Birthday Part 2

Postby Stradawhovious on Sat Mar 13, 2010 6:52 pm

Well, we're back. Unfortunately he didn't have any fun. We tried, and tried and tried, and we couldn't get him to even crack a smile.

Image

And when I told him that the rifle was his..... to keep....... he seemed rather unamused.

Image

Ok, I'm lying. We all had a fantastic time. We really couldn't keep him from smiling, and he couldn't talk about anything else on the hour plus car ride home. He got to shoot the AR-15 (yes, we had a little talk about his finger placement after this photo was taken..... )

Image

His expression when he hit his first can of soda was absolutely priceless.... he must have hit it dead on too, the way it came apart. (the 10 minutes of shaking first didn't hurt.)

Image

Unfortunately, Vlad is the one who didn't have any fun........

Image

All things considered we had a fun filled, safe day filled with a case of exploding soda cans and .22 spinners. I think he is hooked for life. He still can't decide where to hang his first target.. (which, if I say so myself is pretty durned impressive for the first time behind a trigger!!!)

I couldn't have had a better day, and can't wait until I can take him again, or until his brother is old enough to join us.

:D :D :D :D :D

Excellent! You'd better adjust those sights a hair to the left and let him shoot again. :)

Oh, don't let him put the AR picture on Facebook, or they'll expel him from school.

That there rifle was benchrest tested, and put 50 rounds in the space of a dime, dead center at 25 yards By the end of the day got his trigger squeeze down pat, and he was ringing a 2" spinner about 80% of the time at 25 yards, and bursting soda cans at will. :bravo: He did say something that made me laugh really hard too...... I was explaining that he needed to firmly place the stock in the correct place in his shoulder, and explained about the cheek-weld and he said "Oh! It's kind of like a pillow after a two mile run!"

saaa weeet....

And for exposing the child to that danger. You will have to do many hours of community service making sure that he understands the hazards of shooting.

Of course the only way that this can be accomplished is by many more hours of range time. As you so see in the pictures, he needs to work on his finger on the trigger bit.... ;)

Glad you all had a good time.

Loos like a great day. Don't want to be a buzz-kill, but teach him to keep his finger off the trigger when not shooting ;)

Thanks Rob.

Not to be a total buzz kill, but if you had taken the time to read the captions, you would have seen that it was a concern that was addressed, and corrected. ;)

Thanks for the heads up though, its not something to overlook.
