New Rental Policy at Bill's Since the Shooting....

Noticed a new sign on the rental case at Bill's north today when I was there shooting. Now in order to rent a gun you have to have a valid permit, and a party of two or more. No more renting a gun by yourself, I guess....

If they know you, they could always make an exception for you.
That'd be up to the range officer, of course..

Which could be argued that if you have a carry permit, you also likely have a gun and wouldn't need to rent one for any other use than target practice.

I thought the same thing as I read the sign...I had a loaded gun in a holster on my hip, so why would I need to rent one if I was going to shoot myself? Seems silly to require people who have guns to jump through these hoops. But I suppose the policy is meant to cut off the depressed loner who walks in and wants to rent a gun. Unfortunately I like to occasionally rent guns myself and shoot...!

The key word is the "or." Also there is the range officer's discretion. If they know you, I bet you won't have any problems renting.

Yes, the "or" on the website seems to give some latitude. I don't think the sign at the rental case at Bill's has the "or" though. It simply lists the points with bullets and no conjunctions/disjunctions between. Could be wrong though--I have to admit I wasn't reading it for grammar. I would assume that the range officer could give discretion, but in talking to Theresa there about it, she certainly didn't indicate any latitude.

Many of those who know Theresa well call her "mom." She let me rent a Springfield 1911 all by myself last year when I was still very new to this gun stuff. All I knew is that I wanted to rent a .45 and thought the big silver one looked neat (male version of "cute"). In retrospect, I should have started out with a Glock or another gun with simple operation and heavier trigger. The 1911 is really not a good beginner gun (cue backlash from jac, hammAR, 1911fan, cobb and others ). After someone1980 showed me how to properly load rounds into the magazine (properly being not backwards ) I had a good time shooting, but did manage one accidental (i.e. negligent) double-tap...no harm, no foul, right?

I really doubt any Bill's rep is going to deny rental to a regular with his or her own gun(s) in tow, especially one who took their training at Bill's.

Exactly they are a good group over north, and Theresa is a Saint i always seem to get compliments from her on how my shooting has improved

I can't let this go.
I fully agree and dare you to find that I have suggested such. I cannot speak for the others on your backlash list, but I steer a new shooter towards a simple action like a double action revolver or maybe a XD9 and/or a Kahr, but much prefer a double action revolver. In fact, my immediate access house guns are all double action S&W's because that is what my wife is most comfortable with and I do not feel under gunned when it comes to a handgun and I have a revolver stoked with a .357 magnum load.

A point of clarification, I have never advocated the 1911 for every one, only for myself.

I believe there are many people who should not carry a 1911, multiple controls are beyond their capabilities,
