5" Colt Commander???

I had a new Colt 1911 come in that is a 5" Government model (says so on the box) but the slide says "Commander model". It's brand new. The serial numbers match up from the box,packing slip, gun, etc., but I thought the "Commander" had the shorter barrel? It's the model 01991 but says "Commander" on the slide. Says "Government" model on the box. Is this a mistake or a roll mark change? Every other one I've seen says "Government Model" on the slide.

Could you have the gun equivalent of the Inverted Jenny airplane stamp? A one of a kind mistake with the name Commander on a GI slide??

I even had to put it in a couple of my government model holsters to convince myself it was indeed a 5",....WTF ????

Are you sure? Colt never did anything in 5" that would have "Commander" on it?

Instant collectable. I have never seen it on a Colt, but I have seen Rugers and Smiths mis-marked a few times. I wonder what the circumstances were for that to happen?

I am far from a 1911 expert but I thought it was kinda a universal thing. Commander= 4" roughly.

This is the first one to my knowledge. Either way it looks like a sweet gun.

It's the wrong roll mark based on this thread. Pretty cool that you got something that made it through the QC process that shouldn't have.

Congrats on the collectible. Now to convince the wife that you cannot shoot this one and that you need to go and buy another...that is the real difficulty.
