9mm or .357 Sig

Postby tizzo on Fri Feb 08, 2013 11:49 am

I will be purchasing an upper kit for my Sig 226 22 Classic; my options are 9mm or .357 Sig. All my other handguns are 9mm, so for economy I'm leaning toward 9mm. This will be a house gun, thoughts on which caliber to go with?

I've never owned real sig but if you go 357 I think you can get 40 barrel for it too.
I love it when a plan comes together!

Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with a ".4".

My 9mm doesn't start with a decimal. That's bigger, right?

I am a big fan of .357 sig but if you don't reload, most of the advantages are lost. In factory loadings .357 sig won't give you anything more than 9mm and your capacity is decreased. In addition it normally has a much more pronounced muzzle flash.

9mm it is. I don't plan on reloading anything other than 9mm. This gun will only make the range a few times a month and will mostly sit at home full up with high quality defensive ammo.

IMHO 357 sig is a PIA to reload. It's my least favorite to reload and for me poses challenges with case neck tension. I can reload 15 other calibers with confidence including 5.7x28 and .500 S&W and .50 AE but .357 sig is a real PIA. Just my $.02...

If you are going to fill it with defensive ammo from DoubleTap, Speer or Hornady you will notice a rather large difference between the two. If you're going to plink with it I'd go with 9mm but if you are going to use it strictly as a defensive gun I'd go with the 357Sig.

. 357 sig us a very capable defensive round but as already stated in the thread it is not that much of a benefit over 9mm at the range or in Competition

Toss up - can't shoot either right now

Nobody sells .357 sig so I can't find it in store, and the 9mm shelf is always empty.
