I'm looking for opinions on the Taurus PT 1911. Quality and what people think a good price would be for a used one. Thank you!

I have one and like it. It shoots well. I would check the barrel link. Had mine lock up and HammAr and 1911Fan were nice enough to help me diagnose and fix it. In mine, the barrel link was undersized (too narrow for the gap between the ears leading to binding on the pin eventually.

I'd still buy another one at a good price. At their current retail, I'd look at the Springfield Armory line instead.

I shot a PT1911 at Bill's Shooter's Show a couple weeks ago. I liked it! A lot!! There's going to be one in my safe sometime in the future.

A prick from this forum broke mine. The thumb safety’s fell off, and he lost the springs that held it. Mine is an early stainless and it could be buffed better, and the cheap plastic factory grips look like ****.

If I were to do it again I would spend the money and get either a SA Pro or Custom Carry.

Same thing happened to buddy of mine, after 2 mags. He returned it.

I agree I think you would be better off with a Rock river than the taurus I have 2 SA's 1 Colt and one Kimber and I like them all

I really like mine too, but took care of that ugly plastic grips problem:

I like mine, and switched back from a Hogue Rubber wraparound grip to the checkered plastic ones. They just feel right in my rather large hand. It is sturdy and feeds well like a basic 1911. I see it as a workhorse, not a racehorse...

I dropped about $450 on a lightly used one and feel good about the purchase. When I was looking a little over a year ago, new ones were going for $550-600. I decided I could buy a fair amount of ammo for the $100 difference.

Went to Bill's today and talked to one of the guys there about the Taurus 1911, Boy did he have a negative opinion about Taurus! He said they were totally junk! hmmmm interesting because i had just got back from Wolf's Den and one of the guys there said they're a decent gun. 10-15 yrs ago they were bad but they've really improved. He said that he's never had one returned for repair and that's basically how he judges a gun. Like they say, "opinions are like ....well you know the saying! anyways i'm still up in the air about what 1911 to get in the price range i can get the Taurus. The Springfield is nice but it doesnt have the ambi-safety and that's the main reason i was looking at the Taurus (i'm left handed). Ya i know, you can have one put on for an xtra $150 or more...well i would rather have one i don't have to mess with......hmmmmm?

actually. Ambi safeties run about fifty bucks. Often you can find them for less.

Para has a new entry-level 1911 that looks pretty good. So do those guys who make Heritage Revolvers and Escort shotguns.

Strad can you give me the info on the grips in this post? I would like to get a set of the grips but I am not sure what to order.

I think Springfield has got a pretty good 1911 for a good price.

I have a Safari Arms 1911 and a Sig Sauer 1911 Revolution Carry and they are both great shooters.

Thanks!
