Silver Glock slide..

Postby GLOCKALLDAY on Tue Sep 13, 2011 8:33 pm

I was wondering if anyone has ever customize their Glock slides and made it chrome or silver? I am looking into doing so, so I was just curious if anyone has ever done it. I saw some factory made with gunmetal slides which I thought were pretty nice, but its pretty expensive, so I was wondering if there was an alternative to the solution before I go ahead and spend some more money on a brand new pistol..

Please feel free to express your thoughts..

thanks

If you want chrome or silver finish, then no, there will not be cheaper alternative.

If you want stainless appearance finish, then there are numerous options from duracoat to NP3. All depends on what you want to pay for it.

That said, I am not sure I would chrome a Glock. They are more of a work horse than a shiny show piece so dull finish would be preferred to maintain functionality. But obviously, the choice is yours as it is yours.

Here's an example. I got this refinished with CeraPlate from CCR refinishing because this gun does not sit in a moisture controlled safe. The slide and barrel was coated:

I have other firearms refinished, but this is the only one that has satin finish as I don't particularly like that finish. Personally, I see these protective coating as necessity on some firearms as I treat workhorse guns like I did with my pickup. They run with me, go into water/sand/heat...... So if you get it refinished, don't forget about its protective features, rather than appearance alone.

Don't know what the general opinion of their quality is, but Lone Wolf makes aftermarket stainless slides for Glocks.

ROBAR Np3 is a popular finish on Glock slides, Otherwise for about $200 youcould just order a stainless lonewolf upper.

Actually, from a defensive standpoint, it is better to have your pistol done up in flat black, so the perp can't see you so easily.
