Been kind of contemplating this caliber for a bit. As usual, I do my research to see if any benefit from what I have. Have own 50BMG, couple of 338LM and I reload. Old Man taught me! Been looking at reload data from Hodgdons web site. Based on a 200 gr bullet, doesn't seem much more fps than my 308, only a couple hundred. Hodgdon web site shows for 308 max 2502 fps with a certain powder. I am using RL17 getting 2694 fps last time I checked with my lab radar. A little hot but no pressure signs. Now from looking at different makers for the 300 PRC, am seeing 1:8 to 1:75 twists whereas my 308 and allot of others are 1:10 twist. To me, it doesn't seem worth it but maybe I am missing something. Reason why I am posting this. Have looked at the difference in powders and case lengths. Heck, the 30-06 is close to case length. I miss my 338LM I sold to old man but the recoil was to much given my multiple back surgeries. Makes me wonder if the 308 or 30-06 can change the twist rate like the PRC and come real close or better. Since Hornady signed the contract to supply the military with 300 PRC ammo, there is none to get, just like the 300BO sub 190's they are supplying to the military. Dried up! Posting my pics of reload date I have so far come across.
