i've been thinking of rifles, and my plans for an AR are going to have to sit on the back burner. i need something for deer. i also would like to have something that i could take to a range and shoot for some distance. no, i don't plan on competing, i just want to try my shot (literally) at a 400+ yard shot. i have narrowed my choices down to the Ruger M77 or the CZ550 American. i like the wood stocks, not synthetics, and i also really like the fact that they are both Mauser style actions
the second thing is caliber, there's the 30-06 (which is damn near a standard in MN for deer) and the .270 Win. i'm leaning toward the .270 mainly because i like being different, but also because i've heard and read many good things about this caliber. it is supposed to shoot very flat and quite accurate.
school me, oh wise ones! maybe there's another caliber you can think of?
