Savage Arms 111 hog hunter

Ordered one of these from cheaper than dirt last Monday. Hopefully my FFL will see it before the end of the year. Already ordered a scope base, bi-pod, and a box of ammo for shooting. Still have to research optics but pretty dead set of a Vortex Viper mil dot 30mm tube scope for this gun. Also going to be adding a muzzle brake to help tame the recoil. .338 win mag caliber.

Good choice on optics, camera land New York has them in stock right now and will give you 10% off their already competitive price if you call them and ask for the forum member discount. If you haven't dealt with rest assured that they are great people to deal with. Ask for Doug or niel if you call.

Being a long time Hog Hunter ( Fla Everglades ) isn't a .338 Win Mag a bit of overkill? Won't be anything left to eat... I took a 330 lb Boar back in 1979 with a 44 Mag Pistol. I have friends that still hunt them only with dogs and a knife.

It's just the name of the gun. I plan on using mine for much larger game than "hogs"...

Cool gun, I just got the 111 hunter in 300 win mag. I hate the stock on the thing and will be replacing it with either a BOYD's or i may carve out my own. it is freefloated and pillar bedded, but there is a TON of wiggle on the forend where you would mount the bipod. Keep a eye out for that i guess.

Have had one in .308 for years. Great all around rifle. Replaced the stock with a Boyd''s and put a PWS FSC 30 up front for muzzle rise management. Right handy piece of iron. Enjoy!

may I ask which boyds stock you went with? I can't decide on one

The Boyd's Tacticool. Very nice fit and finish, and not too heavy for field work.

My son who lives near Houston, hunts hogs there with a 223 AR with great success.
He got two last weekend, said it was boring and would rather be hunting whitetail deer in northern Minnesota, except that it was warmer in Texas now.
