Yea, a slight rub going in and enough drag to cause it not to drop free, but doesn't take much force at all to insert or remove. I've already taken a brand new GI mag to it in order to observe where the mag well rubbed off the finish....seems there's 3 or 4 contact points. Bottom line is it will drop free from most of the mags I have and will function fine with others (just won't drop free), I'm not sure I want/need to modify it. Even for a SHTF gun, I hope a mag "dropping free" isn't going to make the difference of life or death, but if it would I'm sure there will be some other rifles lying on the ground somewhere close by to pick up and use
