Tight mag well in CMMG lower

Discussion of rifles, shotguns, and muzzleloaders

Where did you purchase this blem lower? There was a recent release of lowers with tight magwells that was for sale with that information listed under the blem category. The dealers should have listed the out of spec magwell, but some failed to list this info and placed them along with regular blemished lowers.

CMMG is by no means lower end manufacturer when it comes to lowers.

I've got a pile of mags that work fine in it, but would like it to drop free p-mags. I'd really prefer it drops free all mags, but several brands do work perfect in it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm 99% sure CMMG doesn't make their own lowers.

Just tested mine - yep, tight magwell with Pmags. Its not extremely tight, but enough to where they won't drop free. Annoying nonetheless...

Aren't emags slightly smaller for use in euro junk rifles?

Before you go crazy on it, with a file or what have ya, try to find the exact contact points.
Though, it might look like it's making contact everywhere - I doubt that it is. Don't think you'd be able to put it in if it was that tight.
It is only a matter of "drop-free" and not "gotta drive 'em in like a mosin bolt" - right?

Yea, a slight rub going in and enough drag to cause it not to drop free, but doesn't take much force at all to insert or remove. I've already taken a brand new GI mag to it in order to observe where the mag well rubbed off the finish....seems there's 3 or 4 contact points. Bottom line is it will drop free from most of the mags I have and will function fine with others (just won't drop free), I'm not sure I want/need to modify it. Even for a SHTF gun, I hope a mag "dropping free" isn't going to make the difference of life or death, but if it would I'm sure there will be some other rifles lying on the ground somewhere close by to pick up and use :D

My understanding of the emag is that it is primarily used in the hk 416/sa80. There is only a slight size difference between the pmag and emag, with the emag being closer to a gi metal mag. They are great for out of spec lowers that may not drop a pmag free but can be difficulut to find and are only offered in a windowed version. However I have heard that they can wobble slightly because of the slightly reduced dimensions.

Emag is a pmag for euro rifles with generally slightly smaller magwells, so they drop free.

Most big places that carry pmag, carry emag.
Get a sample and try it.

Take the upper off the lower, and then insert the tight mag into the magazine well. You'll get a better view of where it is truly sticking. May even want to pull (or replace) the magazine release to see how that affects the magazine's fit.

^ How does the center of the mag release button look? Is it below, flush, or above the circular grooves? It's possible the release is screwed in one too many turns.

It's the mag well, have verified it's not the release....it's rubbing in several places, you can see the mags actually contacting the mag well walls if you look from the top of the receiver with the upper removed.
