Question on AR uppers?

Postby Hammered Squirrel on Fri Feb 24, 2012 12:16 pm

I'm looking to buy an upper to match my lower. I want to get a 1:9 twist rate due to the fact that I'm shooting mostly 55 to 62gr ammo. So the question is what are some other brands other then DPMS that have 1:9? Mostly everything else that I have found has been 1:7.

if I didn't get a Del-ton,

A white oak Arsenal CMP upper would be on the short list.

I looked all over on PSA and I wasn't able to find one that was. I looked at the RRA but they said it could take up to 4 months for it to ship... WTH!

Every MFG has 1:9 uppers available. That is pretty much the standard, if it isn't available in the exact configuration you want, you can build one. AR's in general are very popular right now, most of the distributors are out of everything, so it might be tough to find exactly what you want in stock.

Why would you eliminate 1:7 twist barrels? They work will with 40gr - 80gr.

while 1:9 twist have trouble with stabilizing longer rounds:

No offense guys, but I'm trying to stay away from the DPMS (I've heard their QC has fallen a bit) and Del-ton. Nothing against them, I just have a little more to spend then I originally thought I would and now I want to put a more expensive upper on. I've been looking at Spikes more now, but they are out of stock...

I was under the influence that 1:9 is much better for rounds up to 68? grs, that's why I was looking for one of those. If anyone has input on which twist is better for .223/5.56 rounds right around the 55 to 65gr area. Also the upper that I'm putting on is just a 16" regular barrel with a carbine length fore stock. Im not looking for perfect accuracy at 400 yards, but I definitely don't want to have key holing.

1:8 or 1:7 would work. Even the 1:9.

I'd suggest looking at the White Oak Armament then. It's the next one I will be buying.
