Kent man sentenced in 'straw purchase' case involving dozens of guns linked to crimes
KENT, Wash. — A federal judge imposed a sentence of three years in prison for the man who admitted to purchasing 133 guns that ended up in the hands of criminals around the Seattle area and used in dozens of violent crimes.

Dion Cooper, 33, of Kent, pleaded guilty to multiple federal firearm charges, including trafficking in firearms, making a false statement in connection with the acquisition of firearms, and straw purchasing firearms.

Pleadown. Instead of the 15-30 years the charges merited, he got a lighter sentence to spare the prosecution the cost and time of pursuing all the counts.

Three years?


Were we to rigorously enforce gun existing laws with severe penalties, it's quite likely gun crime would diminish, along with the justification for the clamor that we need for more intrusive gun laws.

Locally, some of the county attorneys with the worst records on vigorous enforcement of gun law violations, are among the first to beat a path to the state legislature to advocate for more gun control.
Given this sentence, perhaps it's how the feds play as well.
