Despite concerns about timing, Utah lawmakers are moving ahead with a bill designating the Browning 1911 pistol as the official state gun.

The Great Seal of the State of Minnesota became official in 1861, with the present design legislated in 1983. It depicts a barefoot farmer plowing his field near St. Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River. His axe is driven into a tree trunk, with his rifle and powderhorn nearby. An Indian on horseback rides south, a summer setting sun in the background. The state motto, "L'Etoile du Nord", or "Star of the North", appears on a banner above the scenery. Around these images is the outermost ring, which reads "The Great Seal of the State of Minnesota". The bottom of the outer ring contains the date 1858, which is when Minnesota gained statehood.

A state gun would be much less embarrassing than a state muffin.

I'd like to cram one down her throat so she shuts up.

I'm not a big MPR fan, but they got one right:
Erik Paulsen: work horse
Michele Bachmann: show horse

At times the MN State Seal has come 'under fire'. It shows an indigenous being chased off the land, a chopped down tree stump, a....(gasp) firearm, mother earth being ripped open, and perhaps most offensive to some modern tastes: someone actually working... :o

Since Magnum Research, and DPMS are both in MN I think we should have either a AR, or a Desert Eagle as our state gun.
