Man Arrested with Guns in Park

(ABC 6 NEWS) - Austin Police have a 20-year old man is custody after he allegedly stole guns from a local business and took them to a local park.

The suspect is a 20-year old Caucasian man.

Charges are still pending at this time.

Just after 10:30 Sunday night, Pam and Marc Hammeros were driving by their business, Austin Awning, and noticed that things just didn't seem right.

"When I walked in further, there was shot guns shells laying on the floor,” says Marc.

Shot gun shells, cash, electronics and registered guns from inside the storage room were missing and then the reality that they had been burglarized set in.

Police believe after the suspect robbed Austin Awning, he brought the guns here to this park.

"We were called initially to a report of a person that had a shotgun and was walking with a shotgun in the park down at Lafayette Park,” says Austin Police Chief Paul Philipp.

"That’s a public park there are kids, I mean, there are children out there playing; we can't imagine what he was thinking,” says Pam.

Austin Police arrested the 20-year old suspect at gunpoint.

They say they found one loaded shotgun on him and three more within a hundred feet.

He is now in custody in the mower county jail with charges pending.

The Hemmero's say the quick thinking witness who reported the suspect might have saved a life.

"We are just so grateful that somebody has the sense and the intuition to call police when they saw this man walking through the park,” says Pam.

The Austin Police Department say they expect to file charges against the suspect within the next few days.

They must have all been S&Ws. Didn't Smith have the "Registered Magnums" back in the day? Came with a factory letter and were on file with Smith? :D

Sorry, could not help myself.

The suspect is a 20-year old Caucasian man.

Is their some sort of formula they use for deciding when to mention the race of a person when they are alleged to be involved in a crime?

The only reason I ask is that quite often I will hear about a crime like a robbery or a shooting on the radio or read about it and they do not give a detailed racial description of the suspect, yet here they do.
