Did anyone go to the grand opening of this training facility? It's in New Hope.

It looks fairly expensive but pretty cool.

I watched the interview of Lt. Larry Yatch, one of the founders of that place, on kfan.com. Seems like he's pretty down to earth guy considering all he's done. Go to the Power Trip Morning Show page for the interviews.

I've talked with Larry at great lengths. He is a great guy. He was a Lieutenant with the teams, is very smart and his concept for training is sound. He's more focused on giving Joe ignorant the mindset for protecting hiself and family. But he does also have classes for LE/Mil types.

All,

This is Larry Yatch, I am the president and CEO of Sealed Mindset Training.

We have been working on designing this facility and the curriculum delivered here for the last 5 years.

Our goal was to provide individuals (non-military / LE) with access to the information and facilities necessary to effectively defend themselves and their families.

It is my belief that the most important step to living a safe life is to be confident. In my experience confidence cannot be taught, it cannot be faked, it must be earned. The only effective way I have found to earn confidence starts with education, continues with perfect practice, and ends with experience. Unfortunately most people do not have access to curriculum or facilities that allow you to learn, practice, and experience that which is required for true confidence. I believe that we have taken a big step in that direction here at our facility.

I designed our facility's capabilities to specifically address private citizen's training in the defensive use of firearms.

It is split equally into three areas: Training, Practice, Experience

Training:
Large, fully multi-media capable classroom expandable to over 80ft x 30ft.
Three dryfire / laser / video training stations. These stations are custom designed and full of content that we continue to create including drills, instruction, and tests.

Practice:
One of a kind custom built indoor range.

The lane range includes 4 lanes (4ft lanes) with 20m firing lines. The beauty of this range is the fact that it is capable of 270 degree shooting. Any caliber pistol can be fired into the walls or the main impact area at contact distances (the gun can be touching the walls when you shoot) with no risk of bullet ricochet or fragmentation. It has a full tactical ceiling, allowing for full movement forward of the firing line to the impact area. It has a granular rubber bullet trap main impact area that is capable up to .50bmg. It has full light control every 10ft from the firing line to the impact area allowing for individual control from full light to no light. There are tracked electrically powered "retrieval" targets. Obviously, movement forward of the line, shooting into the walls, or low light shooting is not done while members are shooting in the lanes.

The shooting bay is a ballistically separate shooting area. It is 8ft wide x 8ft high x 20m long. It has all of the same capabilities as the lane range. This allows us to conduct training without interrupting members' usage. This "shooting bay" can be rented the same as a lane which equates to having your own private range. It allows members to conduct training that is not possible on a lane range such as movement, cross-drawing, contact shooting, low light shooting, shooting "off-line" (270 degree), multiple targets, etc.

Experience:

Over 1500 square feet of dedicated live scenario training space. Fiber re-inforced walls with a special polymer coating allowing for Simmunition training. We have three varying scenes in this room. Currently we have a bedroom scene, a full car (real fiero), and a man on man plexiglass alley. This area is used for classes, such as our bi-weekly Simmunition classes, and private training. We also allow members to rent these different scenes for their own personal training. We will provide the Simmunition or Airsoft guns you pay for ammunition. We will not allow two members to shoot against each other as that has limited training value and turns into a paintball game. We do provide instructors that can act as role players, scenario managers, or debriefers.

We have a fighting and fitness room which is a full functional fitness gym and defensive tactics room. We have contracted with 4 of the best martial arts providers in the area: Rick Faye - MN Kali, Damien Hirtz - Alliance Jui-Juitsu, Greg Nelson - The Academy, and Jack Pettengill - EAD. They each teach 1 class a week in their particular style. We also have Jason Massie - owner of Crossfit Sisu running 3 functional fitness classes which include fighting and shooting each week.

Some particulars of how we run the place:

All scheduling is run through a web based system. So you can book training time up to a month in advance and never have wait in line. You can always see what classes are available and how many people are booked.

Every room/training space has a Pan/Tilt/Zoom CCTV camera in it. We use these cameras in three ways: security, management, immediate student feedback/debriefing. I can record, playback, and burn a dvd of your lesson or training.

Every member is assessed in their skill levels. We are not concerned with tactics just safety. After the assessment you are assigned a rank, that rank dictates what you can do in the facility. This creates the opportunity for members to be unlimited in the tactics that they train. If you are assessed at a high enough level you can cross-draw with your off hand, shoot multiple targets in the dark, while moving. If you are not able to illustrate that you can do those skills safely you cannot do those skills live fire. We always allow members to practice skills above their rank in the dryfire area or using the Simmunition guns on the live fire range. We do this so that every member has the opportunity to safely come and work on any skill they have the knowledge and skills to preform.

We are very clear as to the standards, we do not require that you go to class to advance your skills and testing is open to everyone as often as you like for a nominal fee ($10) to cover range time, instructor time, and ammunition / firearms usage. We always provide all ammunition, equipment (holsters, flashlights, mag pouches), range fees, targets, firearms in all classes or testing at no extra cost.

Finally, we are a members only facility. That means that only members can come and use the facilities on their own. There is no public use of the ranges. We do offer firearms classes to the public from basic entry level classes to advanced AR-15 movement classes. We also offer our fighting and fitness classes to the public separate from firearms students or facility members. Membership is limited so that we can be sure to service our members extremely well. We are also limiting growth to 12 members a month so that we do not suffer the same growing pains of most new businesses, or the inability to fulfill on our promises.

Our team has been working for over 5 years to bring this facility into reality. It has been my mission to create a place that I would want to come to train above all others; one that offers all of the capabilities needed and none of the restrictions of other shooting ranges.

I have tried to cover many of the main points here in this post, but I am sure I have missed some of them. Feel free to leave any questions you may have here. Since I am extremely busy making sure this place runs well I cannot promise that I will respond here regularly. If you would like more prompt service you can reach us at frontdesk@sealedmindset.com or 877.723.7573.

I look forward to hopefully meeting many of you when you decide to come visit us.

Sincerely,
Larry Yatch

P.S.
We are located at 5121 Winnetka Ave N, in New Hope MN.
