Well, we'll see if there is more to this story, but just remember everyone, when you pull that trigger, your life is going to change.

I pull the trigger all the time and the only thing that changes is the amount of ammo I have.

From the story it doesn't seem like the shooting has anything to do with castle doctrine. The person died on a sidewalk which is generally considered public property.

The shooter is trying to use the castle doctrine to defend his actions.

Article didn't say that the homeowner was threatened.

He can claim what he wants, it doesn't mean it applies.

Insanity might be a better defense.

“He felt like that was his property, and he had to protect his property,” said Liz Hudson, who used to live next door to the family. “He said he wouldn’t hesitate [to shoot] if anybody was on his property.”

Sounds like a thorough misunderstanding of what Castle Doctrine is.

Also, a good lesson about what not to say, and who not to say it to. He probably never thought that his words would be repeated in the press after a shooting.

What does his GPA have to do with anything?

The fact that he crashed his car in to a light pole at 3 am (drunk?) is more relevant than his academic work.

If the shooter had a reasonable belief he was stopping a felony he would be in the clear in Texas.

Joe Horn was "no billed" by a grand jury and never charged.

And just to be sure, this is NOT the same case as the OP presented. The youtube event took place in 2007.

Texas is a very different place when it comes to self defense. If you have to shoot somebody do it in Texas... :o

+1 Joe Horn confronted two people committing felony robbery. I believe he shot them on his property after one of them advanced towards him. I'm not sure if the robbers in the Joe Horn incident were armed, but they had more than a thousand dollars worth of stolen property on them.
