" we have armed staff members that would not allow harm to come to them".

You/ they have something it writing about that? Not that it would likely matter in the event of deadly force use issue.

If one thinks about it- that's a pretty strong (and preposterous) statement; in effect guaranteeing some employees' safety seemingly because some other employee has a carry permit.

(Not trying to derail an interesting thread, but the quoted remark really jumps off the screen as ignorant and irresponsible)[/quote]

Don't go blowin a gasket there buddy, my bosses statement was purely in jest. The "revenge" that the cleaning manager spoke of entailed the fired cleaning crew sneaking back on property and stealing the new crews mops and brooms. The point of my post was to show how a sensitive topic at my workplace had become less sensitive with the help of a safe, and very fun, trip to the range.

' armed staff members that would not allow harm to come to them ' with no further explanation... How could one not see the obvious humor in such a light-hearted statement and realize that it was used in context of a mop prank?

No handbook - No memo - No word...

As far as I'm concerned it's a Don't Ask - Don't tell policy.

But I wouldn't wanna get caught...

my boss is a real prick about guns and carrying at work......

I can never get a straight answer out of him.

Most of the time he just mumbles something about AOJP.....

Mine says I'll possibly become a victim of a violent crime without any means to defend myself if I ever go without a carry gun. I tend to agree with him.

Just got a new job - same situation. No written policy that I am aware of, although the windows to the side of the door may or may not say (sic) "We ban guns on these premises", but it's in a weird color on glass so it's very difficult to see. I haven't even noticed them yet... :?

What hospitals would those be? Allina system is pretty much uber-no.

Outstate. One of them is a district hospital and as a governmentl entity they can't ban guns. The other is a private hospital that simply chooses not to. I haven't seen the employee handbook at either place, not sure if carry is prohibited by employees but I don't think so.

Just started new job, no signs on any doors I went in. No mention of it in orientation, so I started to think I was golden, but reading the policies in detail it is expressly forbidden and would likely mean termination.

My employee handbook states "No weapons....." - I never considered my firearm a weapon so I don't worry about it.
State law prohibits employers from banning in parking lots.

Official policy is to not leave guns out on your desk on the days when co-workers bring kids into the office.

I haven't been to the office since my interview, so the rules aren't that strict for me.

True, but be aware that Minnesota is also an "at will" work state. You can be fired for any reason, or no reason at all.
