Crocodile productions shows - worth going?

Postby FJ540 on Tue Nov 24, 2009 5:41 pm

The last show I was at was probably 4 or 5 years ago, and it was pretty weak. Are they worth attending now?

I've heard shows are mainly retailers on the move these days, due to fleabay and gunbroker taking the hobbyists to the masses with lower fees and operating expenses.

There's another show coming up in December too right? I think it's at Rivercenter?

The Rivercenter show is a function of the Minnesota Weapons Collector's Association and well worth attending. They have a wide participation rate among regional retailers and a fair representation of private collectors getting rid of excess items. They also have parts, books, and accessories for just about every need.
Dec 11-12 is the weekend.

Crocodile Production events are smaller and focus on more retail firearms often with a significant amount of accessories, knives, and military collectables. Much less in the way of used and collectable firearms. These events are not bad, but they don't hold a candle to the MWCA's shows. Not worth a long drive IMHO.

The Crocodile shows are slightly better than the Sportsman's Guide, but not much. Lotsa stuff, very little worth buying. When I went to them, there was always a tranny there (female now) selling guns and stuff. Visualize ME with a black Goth hairdo, way too much makeup, and a solid set of 38's prominently displayed. :( :o  :? Yeah, it's that bad, and it really messes with your head. She would fit in if it were a cosmetologist show, but at a gun show it's just so wrong...

It's better than sitting home doing nothing.

The great thing about Sam's girlfriend, he/she/it sells/collects a lot of Nazi memorabilia. And he/she/it is big enough to kick all our asses.

I should add too, I did find the shotgun of my (misguided) dreams at a Crocodile Show. You never know what you'll find.

Hmm this is true. the "." would make a difference, although I'm visualizing the same general area of the body.

Either way, in that context, somebody is buying me a clean shirt!

I've also bought and sold a couple guns via crocodile shows, but both cases were flukes. I just happened to be driving by when I ended up with my colt accurized. The sale of my cz75b happened there, because the guy who wanted it wasn't sure my asking price was reasonable. 20 mins at the show he comes running up begging for the transaction. lol They didn't have **** that weekend.

When I was younger, they seemed to be better (Twin Cities shows). The last one was so weak (it was at St Cloud Armory), I pretty much wrote them off.

I spent my wad on my AR, so going wouldn't do me any good till I get a couple checks I'm waiting on (should be here early next week). The military show sounds a lot more fun. I'm torn between trying to get my wife to come with me and kiddo, or going alone so I can actually buy stuff.

Anybody have that joke about the gun show where they describe all of the attendees in perfect detail?

I rate the Crocodile shows as something to do on a weekend where you have nothing planned. They're usually small and the number of firearms and firearm accessories is about equal to the number of knives and war memorabilia. So if you like collecting old war stuff these shows might be right up your alley.

But hey you never know what you'll find at any gun show.

Just went to the one in Brooklyn Park (only a few miles away) and nothing worth buying at the prices, but got to handle a tokarev to let me know I should buy one, and looks like it will be online since they are $100 cheaper, and could not be in any worse shape than the ones at the show

Nice to see that you could get a new AR for $750, so prices are getting better :D

Would not travel more than a few miles for one any more though :|

Going to drag up an old thread... anyone recently gone to one of these? My friend wants to go to the May one at the Anoka Armory but I've got a feeling we would be wasting $5 admission.
