Boberg Lowers

Postby Squib Joe on Tue Feb 12, 2013 9:06 am

Boberg Arms will have some of their CDH(Cold Dead Hands) billet AR-15 lowers ready in the next few weeks.

Minnesota made. I'm sure they will be very high quality as are all of their products. No, they are not cheap.

Any interest in these at 349.00?

I'm not taking money down, but I will compile a list and call you when they're in

Not even $349.

They're $399.

I would guess that Joe is stating he can get them cheaper if he has enough interest.

The add must be off, these are like, complete lowers made from titanium and anodized with unicorn blood, right?

No, they are quality billet lowers made in small quantities. Even @ $350 they are making very little money. :(

A one off at a prototype shop would run about 2K, make more than that and the price exponentially decreases since setup is already done. Make at least 50 and $400 is netting bank

Aren't these just stripped lowers?

Noob question:

Are billet lowers better than regular lowers?

Tentative answer is it depends. If they're made out of 7075 aluminum like a forged lower they are. As it would be milled out from a solid block it would have to be thicker to retain the strength of forged 7075. However they look cooler and have integrated trigger guards because of that reason.

However the lower is a very low stress part of an AR so that's why polymer is a common lower material also.

I'm thinking about getting one of these for my White Oak upper I'm getting soon for a competition build.

The nicer mag well seems like it would be better for that purpose, so I'm considering getting one, but... the price is scaring me away.

If I'm going to get bent over and raped for it, I'd want it to be top shelf at least.

Anyone have any input?

Notice I put his in my original post :)

The price is high, but still cheaper than getting a Seekins or POF billet lower right now. I've even seen the Mega lowers going for more on GunBroker

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =329341117

Based on the interest I've received, I will be getting these lowers and offering them for 50 bucks less than Boberg sells them for online. Also I'll try to get low or unique serial numbers to those that get on my little list

Boberg lowers.

Bottom line is they have to be making money at some price point - that's the whole reason to sell stuff instead of just giving it away. Joe can get them for $350, which is a decent break off MSRP, and if you want a funky lower that you're not likely to have a buddy show up with - then maybe this one's for you. It's certainly a better deal than paying $600 for a CMMG.

Last comment, and I'm not going to respond to anything else about the manufacturing process - if you have all that time and energy into making these, there's gotta be a good margin in it or you wouldn't bother. ;)
