prefer something since 1990 or so, perhaps work a trade for "something", or buy outright,

I have a 16 footer that is being readied for ducks, and I need a smaller outboard, let me please,

I'd take a look at those B&S outboards. They're air cooled and that helps big time. My Merc was constanly getting goobered up in the muck and loosing water flow last year. And late in the season when the water is REALLY cold, liquid cooled motors tend not to get hot enough to run well or even run.

I grew up with evinrudes in my blood, seriously i was raised in massachusetts out on Cape Cod and I am very happy with them....first boat at 9 first serious boat at 12 a 28 footer at 15, but living here, I need a good 2 stroke for what was a pontoon and now is a floating duck killing machine.

IF a 2 stroke is not getting warm enough from cold water entering.... it needs a thermostat, I have run outboards in slushy sea water and not had a problem. I find that to be the first thing I pull on a used motor, after maybe the impeller, a motor with more than 40 hours on it or any use in salt water, needs to have one put in. Once you do the impeller/thermostat on a used motor, its amazing how much better most run, even better than tune up.
