As law abiding gun owners, we liaise with the NRA on two basic fronts -- Friends of the NRA fund raising events (that provide revenue to the NRA Foundation for the purpose of funding grants to NRA supported organizations) and the NRA-ILA (primarily via Frontlines). Friends of the NRA events and activities continue, but at a reduced level due to declining membership and loss of enthusiasm.
NRA-ILA engagement has been limited to Frontlines slide presentations at a few area gun shops once a year, but there has been absolutely zero presence by NRA-ILA personnel in Saint Paul for over two years. Despite an onslaught of attacks on the 2nd Amendment rights of Minnesota gun owners in 2023 and 2024, we were left to fight back with a small, grassroots organization, the MN Gun Owners Caucus.
I have given the NRA the benefit of the doubt (even during the past decade of turmoil), always assuming that the NRA was keeping its powder dry so that it could devote substantial and impactful resources when existential issues affecting the 2nd Amendment would arise. In Minnesota we have spent 24 months fighting over 39 anti-gun bills proposed by the DFL majority controlled House, Senate and Governor's office. If this was not an existential threat, what is? Where was the NRA-ILA?
Randy Kozuch continues to bombard us with pleas for donations to help the NRA-ILA, “Fight for our gun rights!”, yet when NRA-ILA resources are needed here it is just crickets…
It is a shame, but many folks in addition to Hickok45 have distanced themselves from the NRA and Hickok45 makes a good case for why.
