Free AR 15 Seminar

Jon Thompson and I are offering a free AR 15 seminar that he will lead on April 11th at 7:00pm in the Monticello/Elk River area. Basically, we believe there are so many options out there that it merited a seminar for folks new to or wanting to know more about the various manufacturers, sights, options, and accessories. The one hour or so seminar will provide a brief overview rifles from:

1 )ArmaLite

2) Century Arms International

3) Colt

4) DPMS

5) MGI Hydra

6) Sig Sauer

7) Stag Arms

and then allow plenty of time to handle the rifles and discuss various options. While Jon and I have both taken Steve Quill's excellent Intro and Advanced rifle classes, Jon was an Army officer, he is also a graduate of Jon Farnam's Urban Rife class, a diplomaed gunsmith and a factory trained armorer for ArmaLite. As an FFL he sells all of these products and has personal knowledge of them, but there will be no sales due to time restrictions.

As you see from comments on this board, Jon believes in service and is happy to work with to assure you can take the rifle apart, know how to break it in, and how to clean and maintain these rifles. That takes time and we don't want to rush folks through things or have anyone feel pressured. Plus Jon loves to build a rifle for or with you. He has all the tools and skill and wants you to get what you want. He has made mistakes and regularly repairs or returns others mistakes, and is glad to share his experience.

Want all the details on the seminar and the classes, they are here at http://mnguntrain.net/2012%20ar%20class.html

Note that we need to to preregister for this seminar, the April 2 session is no FULL and CLOSED. However the Wed April 11th class at 7pm has seats open and we may well move to a larger location if we get the response we expect. Register in advance at http://mnguntrain.net/ar%20seminar.html. We will acknowledge your registration and provide directions to the class site.

Thanks for the kind words men. Steve and I have been ramping up the Advanced Class. Last year Steve declared a Class Champion and that person has decided to return for the class to defend his title and because he enjoyed it so much.

This guy had lots of prior training and a JP custom rifle. He was also named Steve and he said he enjoyed the 1/4 mile field course at the end where Steve Quill used 4 different ranges and shot from 10 yards to 200 yards while standing, sitting, benched and prone. This year Steve will be picking a Class Champion and also awarding Distinguished Graduate certificates. Remember too with Quill's Advanced class you transition to pistol as part of the class and field course at the end. Stew Thompson will have the Advanced students using rifle, pistol and shotgun on his COF.

My knees will not let me do the knelling or go prone, let alone the running! So I'll stay with the Basic where we certainly move around and also shoot Stew Thompson's field courses where we will stay on the 50 yard range. Quill stays with just the rifle in Basic, but will name a class Champion this year. Stew says bring your shooty for his two gun course of fire!

AR 15 Classes Intro and Advanced Date Change

Postby IDPA Shooter on Fri Apr 13, 2012 7:22 am

We regret there was a miscommunication on the dates of the AR 15 classes. Correct AR 15 class dates are:

Basic Class is May 12th - 6 of 12 seats taken, 150 to 200 rounds needed

Advanced Class is May 19th - 10 of 12 seats taken, sorry one just sold, down to 1 seat remaining on Advanced, a 500 rounds needed class

This was my error and I truly regret the confusion over the dates, but the Monticello Sportsmen's location and times have not changed. Times are still 8 am to 6pm

Cost is $175 for either or $300 for both, lunch is included. Sign up on line at http://mnguntrain.net/ now, classes will not be repeated this year

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also a thank you to all who attended the free AR 15 seminars. All three seminars were full and the folks seemed to enjoy the presentation.

I attended the AR15 intro and advanced classes last year.

I really would've liked to run the course more than once on both occasions. Kind of a let down for me. I may sign up for the advanced class this year since it's the only one close. Tricon will be in Brainerd and Sully in Princeton and I think those are the only three AR15 classes around.

AR 15 Classes Intro and Advanced, other courses

Postby IDPA Shooter on Tue Apr 17, 2012 7:44 pm

Our May 12 Intro to the AR 15 is almost full, sign up now for one of just 3 remaining seats at http://www.mnguntrain.net/, my temporary website

Our May 19 Advanced AR 15 class is full and has now been closed.

We thank all of you who have taken these classes in the past and\or are taking them this year. We really work hard to provide " Training by Experts"

Training by Experts

Jon Thompson and I are pleased to host for the 5th year a true expert and world renown trainer, author and 40 year LEO John Farnam of Defensive Training International at Monticello Sportsman

John will be presenting a one day beyond his advanced course on recognizing danger and disengaging , along with disarm and close quarter drills when the things go bad. Yes, we will have a night shoot.

Day Two will be Force on Force with Airsoft and focus on what to look for and how to react when awareness is not enough. This is as real as John can make it and having traveled and trained worldwide, he knows what it it is like to shoot at folks and have them shooting back.

Both of these advanced classes will require prior formal training and I have worked with several other instructors on this forum to allow them to vouch for your formal training and abilities. Details later this week, but just a few seats remain as we allow qualified prior Farnam graduates first shot at these classes.

We are also pleased to be bring Mike Seeklander to Forest Lake Sportmen's in Sept for his two day IDPA specific training for competition shooting. Like Farnam Mike is a combat tested US Marine with a background in local law enforcement. Mike also served as a Federal Air Marshal and the lead trainer of Air Marshals. Mike is a currently co star of the Best Defense and just walked away with a second place finish in the Limited division at the USPSA Multigun national. Mike requires you be a recently Classified IDPA or USPSA shooter to take his class, which is based on his well received training book.

Details will be posted by the end of the week. We plan to continue to bring nationally known talent to this area. We are working with the former head of the FBI Hostage Rescue Team to bring his experience and expertise to the Twin Cities. We strive to provide quality, cost effective training by experts!
