Removing primer crimp

Postby Bearcatrp on Sun Sep 15, 2024 6:05 am

Been a long time since I had to do this. Long enough that I sold my tool since I didn't think I would need it. wrong. Have 1000 to remove. Don't want to buy another tool. Anything new out there to do this or just ream it out the old fashion way? Thanks.

Whenever you throw away something you have not needed in twenty years, you will then need it 3-6 months later.

I have an RCBS swager, but usually I just use these reamers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B5ZTKRRL/

I have those and probably use those. Just thought I would ask before I begin. Thanks.

Now I know why I bought that tool years ago. My fingers are killing me from holding onto the brass. Can't remember the name of the tool but it was blue case over it.

Dillon 600 Swage tool works best.
Come use mine NC.

Some people say that spark plug pliers work to hold the cases. I haven't tried it.

Thanks. A bit far to do 950 pieces of brass.

Am thinking the spark plug socket with the rubber piece inside may just work. Will give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

It doesn’t do you any good… but a Dillon 1050 makes short work of your problem.

It’s just kind of a PITA to set the swage rod right.

Haven't tried it yet but the large spark plug socket with the rubber inside fits perfect for 308 brass. Nice and snug. If this fails, will order another tool as my old fingers won't last long. Am using my frankfort arsenal station to do this. Will post my results this afternoon.

One thing if you haven't tried it yet is just a good non-slip glove. It reduces the amount of pressure you need to apply to hold the case.

Have tried rubber gloves. Sucks. Did try a few with the spark plug socket. Works fairly well. Larger object to hold onto. I'll go try around 100 to confirm this.

Well this sucks. It works but to slow. I see RCBS makes a swagger. Just looking for the cheapest that will work. Recommendations?

My offer stands.

Just maybe I could sell you other stuff you didn't know you wanted. :D
